ABOUT CMCROCHET DESIGNS

Made by Hand. Designed to Keep Evolving.

CMCrochet Designs is built around original ideas, intuitive design, and the belief that handmade fashion should never feel mass-produced.

The interesting part is finding what comes next.

The part of design I love most is creating something new. Even when I revisit a piece I have made before, I almost always change something—the color, the shape, the stitch work, the proportions, the fiber, or the details.

That constant evolution is what keeps the work exciting. A familiar design can be a starting point, but it does not have to be the ending.

QUEER CULTURE & DESIGN

My perspective as a queer designer is part of the work, too.

I’m inspired by queer culture—its creativity, humor, freedom, nightlife, reinvention, and willingness to challenge what people are “supposed” to wear. That influence shows up differently from piece to piece, but it is part of the visual language behind CMCrochet Designs.

This photo was taken on Fire Island, on the deck where I watched the sky change throughout the day. Those colors and that light became the inspiration for my first fashion show collection, From Sunrise to Sunset. I’m wearing the outfit that, in many ways, started all of this.

No commercial patterns. No assembly line.

I design intuitively rather than working from commercial garment patterns or templates. A piece develops through the act of making it: proportion changes, stitch choices evolve, details appear, and the final design becomes something that could not have been completely planned on paper.

That process applies to everything from runway garments and bags to smaller accessories. The scale may change. The obsession with the details does not.

Wearable Art

Garments are meant to be worn, but that does not mean they have to disappear into the background. I want the piece itself to have a point of view.

Bags & Accessories

Bags are one of my favorite places to experiment with structure, texture, proportion, and unusual construction. They can be practical and still feel like an object you want to look at.

Custom Work

A commission can begin with one of my existing designs or with an idea that does not exist yet. Either way, the goal is to make a version that feels like its own piece.

Designed & crocheted by Chad Malinowski.

Original fashion, one-of-one pieces, and custom work made for people who would rather wear something memorable than something everyone else already owns.
